Clear air and long views across the water tonight, with a faint SW drift with the barometer flat. Expect most activity at Lac Canimina around any hard bottom among the soft. Not a day the forecast likes; the morning keeps a flicker of interest. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

Out in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec, sits Lac Canimina. It lies 349 metres above sea level. At 14.46 sq km you are fishing a fraction of it whatever you do. With about 69 km of shoreline, local advice saves a lot of walking. It ranks high for size among our Abitibi-Témiscamingue listings. For supplies, Val-d'Or is 110 km out. After that come Saint-Boniface at 117 km and Maniwaki at 127 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Across Abitibi-Témiscamingue, recorded fish include northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. On Lac Canimina that means starting tight and working out.
The seasonal spread runs -16°C to 17°C. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Once it clears, about early May, the fishing comes on quickly. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about late November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. The season on Lac Canimina rarely departs from it.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Lac Glacon, 1.3 km away, makes the obvious fallback. The position on Lac Canimina is worth confirming on the day.
