Lac Arco, Quebec: Fishing Spots and Seasons

• Overview

  The Outaouais end of Quebec holds Lac Arco. The bank is 380 metres above sea level. Around 12 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. Bank access stretches around 2.0 km in total. Nearest town is Saint-Boniface, 63 km off. For a city, Gatineau is 175 km off. Also worth knowing: Lac Corme about 0.5 km, Lac Titch near enough 1.1 km, Lac Tag about 1.3 km, Lac Padouzet near enough 1.3 km and Lac Trilby about 1.6 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.

• Where to Fish on Lac Arco

  We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Reported across Outaouais: pumpkinseed, yellow perch and smallmouth bass. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Lac Arco responds to conditions more than to tactics.

• Seasonal Patterns

  The year swings from about -17°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. Ice clears near early May and comes back about late November in a typical year. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Arco.

• Tackle & Baits

  Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Lac Corme, 0.5 km away, makes the obvious fallback. The position on Lac Arco is worth confirming on the day.
