Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with just enough SSW wind to ripple the surface and the barometer holding steady. On Lac Labaye, work the calm side of the wind first. The forecast is against you; the middle of the day is the least bad option. Short, focused sessions beat a long grind today.

Lac Labaye sits in Outaouais, out in Quebec. It stands 382 metres above sea level. Roughly 77 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Some 7.9 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. On our Outaouais list it sits near the top for size. Nearest town is Saint-Boniface, 62 km off. After that come Maniwaki at 74 km and Ferme-Neuve at 80 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Fish documented in Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Fish Lac Labaye to its features, not to its size.
The year swings from about -17°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early May. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near late November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Labaye.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Lac Tooke sits 1.4 km off and takes the overflow. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Labaye for certain.
