Broken cloud drifting past the moon tonight, with a useful SW wind pushing food about with a settled glass. Fish at Loon Lake should hold close to the weed line and any gaps in it. A slow day overall; the morning is the best of a quiet lot. Go lighter and slower than usual. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Look for Loon Lake in the Regional District of North Okanagan part of British Columbia. The water sits 1,353 metres up. Surface area runs to about 9 hectares — small enough to read in one session. The nearest place of any size is Coldstream, 13 km away. Further out sit Lumby (20 km) and Vernon (21 km). No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Our records hold no depth for this water. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Regional District of North Okanagan records list Coho salmon, sockeye salmon and Chinook salmon among the fish reported. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Loon Lake a short move beats a long cast.
The seasonal spread runs -8°C to 14°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Winter locks it down, and mid April brings it back. Average temperatures cross freezing around mid April in spring and again near mid November in autumn. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Anyone fishing Loon Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. There is camping recorded roughly 70 m off. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Doreen Lake, 0.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Signs at Loon Lake carry more weight than any list.
