Scattered cloud dimming the moonlight, with calm air over the water with a settled glass. The water to cover at Pita Lake is the shallows early and the drop later. Quiet conditions all day, with the morning marginally better. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today. Biting air and slow fish: small baits, long pauses.

Set in Sandy Bay, Pita Lake is a Saskatchewan water. It stands 299 metres above sea level. Ground here is low by Saskatchewan standards. Pelican Narrows lies 45 km from the water. Flin Flon is 102 km away, with Creighton at 103 km. Others close at hand: 7.6 km away is Reeds Lake, Brown Bay at 11 km, 13 km away is Wapumon Lake, Sokatisewin Lake at 20 km and 22 km away is Guilloux Lake. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Sandy Bay records list northern pike, walleye, yellow perch, Arctic grayling and white sucker among the fish reported. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Fish Pita Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Average temperature peaks around 17°C in July and bottoms out near -23°C in January. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Climate figures give an open season running early May to early November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Pita Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Failing this one, try Reeds Lake, 7.6 km away. Treat access at Pita Lake as something to verify.
