Solid cloud cover today, with a stiffish breeze from the S with the barometer flat. Give points where shallow meets deep the first hour at Lac Zero. The night is where the day comes good. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Zero lies in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, in Quebec. The bank is 361 metres above sea level. Métabetchouan is the closest place, 48 km off. Further out sit Chambord (51 km) and Roberval (52 km). Nearby, in order: Lac Pouce the better part of 0.3 km, Le Petit Lac after 0.5 km, Lac Yves the better part of 0.8 km, Lac du Diacre after 1.6 km and Lac Long the better part of 1.6 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Survey and observation records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The shape of Lac Zero rewards a slow walk along one bank.
The year swings from about -17°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Zero.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Lac Pouce sits 0.3 km off and takes the overflow. Treat Lac Zero as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
