Lac Vaubert lies in Centre-du-Québec, in Quebec. The setting is northern bush. Around 12.15 sq km of open water: conditions change from one end to the other. The shoreline runs to about 51 km, far more than one trip can cover. It is one of the larger waters we list anywhere in Quebec. Nearest town is Salluit, 146 km off. Puvirnituq is 156 km and Inukjuak 322 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Open biodiversity records for Centre-du-Québec list brook trout, northern pike and lake chub. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Lac Vaubert fishes better once you know its edges.
Average temperature peaks around 11°C in July and bottoms out near -25°C in January. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Ice-out usually falls in mid June, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The open-water window runs from around mid June to about mid October in an average year. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Vaubert.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. The nearest alternative is Lac Carbert, 21 km out. Confirm access to Lac Vaubert locally before you travel.
