An even grey lid over the water, with a persistent wind from the SSW with a settled glass. Expect most activity at Lac Varages around the margins and the shelf beyond them. The night is where the day comes good. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Lac Varages is one of the Laurentides waters in Quebec. The water sits 406 metres up. At roughly 2 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. On size it sits at the modest end of our Laurentides list. Rivière-Rouge lies 25 km from the water. After that come Labelle at 29 km and Mont-Tremblant at 35 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Laurentides, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and brook trout. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. On Lac Varages that means starting tight and working out.
Climate records put July near 17°C and January near -15°C. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Ice clears near late April and comes back about late November in a typical year. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Expect Lac Varages to follow that timing.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. For a change of water, Lac Tostat is 0.8 km distant. Signs at Lac Varages carry more weight than any list.
