Overcast skies today, with steady pressure of wind from the ENE with the barometer flat. The productive water at Lac Troie will be around sheltered bays and points. A broad window opens from the day. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. Bundle up; the fishing will be slow but not impossible.

Lac Troie is set in Nord-du-Québec, Quebec. The bank is 233 metres above sea level. Surface area runs to some 21.39 sq km, so a boat and a plan are both worth having. At about 207 km of edge, most people fish a single area and learn it well. It is among the larger waters listed here for Nord-du-Québec. Kuujjuaq lies 207 km from the water. Beyond it, Puvirnituq at 355 km and Salluit at 404 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. County-wide records name Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout, lake whitefish and cisco. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. At Lac Troie the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
The warmest month averages 12°C, the coldest about -24°C. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near mid June. The water is typically free of ice between mid June and late October. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. The season on Lac Troie rarely departs from it.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Lac Clovis, 18 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing on Lac Troie should be assumed from this page alone.
