Dull, settled light over the water, with a steady SSE wind with a settled glass. The productive water at Lac Tard will be around sheltered bays and points. Set the alarm around the morning. Let the water tell you when to move. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

The Capitale-Nationale end of Quebec holds Lac Tard. Height above sea level is 455 metres. Small at around 2 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is a small entry by Capitale-Nationale standards. Start from Laurentides, 22 km down the road. For a city, Sainte-Foy is 84 km off. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Across Capitale-Nationale, recorded fish include lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon, longnose sucker and sauger. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Fish Lac Tard to its features, not to its size.
The seasonal spread runs -15°C to 17°C. Cold dominates the year and the fishing works around it. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. On Lac Tard the same rules apply, with local timing.
Public data does not answer the access question here. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. For walleye, a jig and minnow near the bottom is the standard; evenings beat middays. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Should this one be busy, Lac Roquaud is 1.4 km off. Ask locally about Lac Tard if anything is unclear.
