A grey, even sky over the water, with barely a breath of wind and no real change in pressure. Whatever swims in Lac Tappi should be near inflow corners and shaded margins. The forecast is against you; the middle of the day is the least bad option. Short, focused sessions beat a long grind today.

Night
Out in Laurentides, Quebec, sits Lac Tappi. Around the bank it is boreal forest. Roughly 11 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The edge runs 1.5 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Some 95 km away sits Ferme-Neuve, the nearest settlement. Gatineau is the closest city, 230 km away. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and brook trout. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. The shape of Lac Tappi decides where the fish sit.
Typical July readings run about 17°C; by January the average is down near -17°C. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Expect Lac Tappi to follow that timing.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. If the gate is shut, Lac Allan at 1.7 km is the nearest alternative. What applies at Lac Tappi may have changed since it was mapped.
