Overcast skies today, with next to no ripple with the glass holding level. Most of the action on Lac Jim should come off any hard bottom among the soft. Not a day the forecast likes; the night keeps a flicker of interest. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Jim is a Mauricie water, in Quebec. The country here is northern bush. This is a pocket water of some 4 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Our Mauricie list holds plenty of bigger water. Ferme-Neuve is the closest place, 98 km off. Gatineau is the closest city, 232 km away. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. County-wide records name northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Take Lac Jim a stretch at a time.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -17°C. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Ice clears near early May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. The season on Lac Jim follows the weather closely.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Ernie sits 0.7 km off and takes the overflow. Signs at Lac Jim carry more weight than any list.
