Flat light and a covered sky today, with a light chop building from the SW and steady pressure. Most of the action on Lac Ruel should come off the seam between weed and open water. Plan around the stretch from the day. Keep moving until you find them. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

The Estrie entry here is Lac Ruel, in Quebec. The water sits 333 metres up. This is a pocket water of some 8 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. It is a small entry by Estrie standards. The nearest place of any size is Disraeli, 18 km away. Saint-Joseph-de-Coleraine is 23 km and Adstock 25 km. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Survey and observation records for Estrie include rainbow trout, white sucker, pumpkinseed, brook trout and rainbow smelt. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. On Lac Ruel the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Average temperature peaks around 18°C in July and bottoms out near -12°C in January. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about early December in an average year. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. It holds true on Lac Ruel more years than not.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. Ouananiche is the mapped fishing point, 1.1 km out. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. If the gate is shut, Baie Sauvage at 2.5 km is the nearest alternative. Signs at Lac Ruel carry more weight than any list.
