Flat light and a covered sky today, with a soft SSE wind and steady pressure. The productive water at Lac Quaire will be around reed fringes and open pockets. The night carries the best of the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac Quaire is one of the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean listings for Quebec. The bank gives way to taiga. At about 26 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The edge runs 2.8 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Supplies mean a trip to Normandin, 81 km off. The big place round here is Saguenay, 197 km distant. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Survey and observation records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The near bank of Lac Quaire is often the one people ignore.
July runs about 16°C on average, January about -19°C. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Plan any trip to Lac Quaire around it.
The access position is unclear from public sources. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac des Sphaignes sits 0.8 km off and takes the overflow. Ask locally about Lac Quaire if anything is unclear.
