Rain colouring the margins today, with a kind SSE breeze on the water with the glass holding level. On Lac Lemer, work the margins and the shelf beyond them first. The numbers single out the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Look for Lac Lemer in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. Spruce and muskeg runs right down to the water. At about 12 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. About 1.5 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Normandin at 79 km is the nearest place to stop. It is 195 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Treat Lac Lemer as a water to read rather than to cover.
Averages move between -19°C in January and 16°C in July. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Lemer.
We hold no note on access for this one. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Lac Birau, 0.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. What applies at Lac Lemer may have changed since it was mapped.
