Dull, settled light over the water, with a whisper of wind from the SSE with the barometer flat. Give any hard bottom among the soft the first hour at Lac Hordain. Save your energy for the night. Change depth before you change anything else. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac Hordain is set in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. It stands 417 metres above sea level. Roughly 10 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The whole outline is near 1.6 km, and most of it is walkable. Start from Normandin, 84 km down the road. Albanel is 87 km and Chibougamau 96 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Read Lac Hordain before you fish it and the day goes better.
Typical July readings run about 16°C; by January the average is down near -19°C. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Plan around that when you fish Lac Hordain.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. For a change of water, Lac Riboux is 1.7 km distant. The position on Lac Hordain is worth confirming on the day.
