Flat light and a covered sky today, with hardly a ripple anywhere and no real change in pressure. The water to cover at Lac Plat is the first drop-off and weed lines. Everything points to the morning. Small adjustments will matter more than big moves. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Set in Mauricie, Quebec, this is Lac Plat. It sits in pine and birch. The water covers some 92 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. You are looking at roughly 12 km of shoreline, with plenty of water between access points. It ranks high for size among our Mauricie listings. Laurentides at 38 km is the nearest place to stop. Beyond it, La Tuque at 41 km and Saint-Raymond at 72 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
We hold no depth figure for this one. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Public occurrence data for Mauricie names northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. Fish Lac Plat to its features, not to its size.
Climate normals give 17°C for July and -16°C for January. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Anyone fishing Lac Plat regularly works to that calendar.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Should this one be busy, Lac Jayac is 1.5 km off. For Lac Plat in particular, ask before you travel.
