Bands of rain crossing through the day, with the surface near flat with a settled glass. The fish at Lac Penissant are likely to sit near shallow cover and weed edges. Make the night the heart of the trip. Make the first hour count and build on it. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Penissant lies within the bounds of Laurentides, Quebec. This is boreal forest ground. Around 53 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The outline measures near 6.5 km, so local knowledge counts. Size puts it in the front rank of our Laurentides list. Start from Ferme-Neuve, 61 km down the road. Mont-Laurier is 77 km and Manawan 81 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Records held for Laurentides cover pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and brook trout. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Read Lac Penissant before you fish it and the day goes better.
July runs about 17°C on average, January about -16°C. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. The open-water window runs from around early May to about mid November in an average year. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Anyone fishing Lac Penissant regularly works to that calendar.
The access position is unclear from public sources. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Failing this one, try Lac Amos, 2.3 km away. For Lac Penissant, the notice at the access point is the final word.
