Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a stiffish breeze from the SSW with the glass holding level. Whatever swims in Lac Patrin should be near sheltered bays and points. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac Patrin stands in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. The bank is 427 metres above sea level. At about 17 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The full circuit measures close to 2.3 km on foot. Normandin lies 40 km from the water. After that come Albanel at 47 km and Saint-Félicien at 48 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Survey and observation records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Lac Patrin the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Averages move between -18°C in January and 16°C in July. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Time your trip to Lac Patrin by conditions rather than dates.
Public data does not answer the access question here. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. For a change of water, Lac Vinard is 1.6 km distant. What applies at Lac Patrin may have changed since it was mapped.
