A grey, even sky over the water, with a working SSW breeze and pressure sitting still. The productive water at Lac Patouille will be around the margins and the shelf beyond them. If you pick one session, make it the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Patouille is one of the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean waters in Quebec. Elevation runs to 472 metres. The water covers some 20 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The whole outline is near 2.4 km, and most of it is walkable. Normandin is the closest place, 78 km off. Beyond it, Albanel at 83 km and Saint-Félicien at 90 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, recorded fish include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Anyone new to Lac Patouille should walk it once before setting up.
Average temperature peaks around 16°C in July and bottoms out near -18°C in January. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. The water is typically free of ice between early May and mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. The season on Lac Patouille rarely departs from it.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac Affoux sits 0.7 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Lac Patouille in what we hold.
