Dull, settled light over the water, with a busy SSW wind on the open water and the barometer holding steady. Give sheltered bays and points the first hour at Lac Aurec. The day peaks in the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Lac Aurec belongs to Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. The bank is 519 metres above sea level. This is a pocket water of some 5 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Quebec listings. The closest town, Normandin, is 80 km distant. Albanel is 85 km and Saint-Félicien 91 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Reported across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean: northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Take Lac Aurec a stretch at a time.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -18°C. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. That is the shape of the year on Lac Aurec.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Should this one be busy, Lac Arsans is 2.8 km off. Ask locally about Lac Aurec if anything is unclear.
