Overcast skies today, with air barely moving with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Lac Abscon should be near the calm side of the wind. If you pick one session, make it the night. Change depth before you change anything else. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

The Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean end of Quebec holds Lac Abscon. Boreal forest runs right down to the water. About 3 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. It is a small entry by Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean standards. Normandin at 78 km is the nearest place to stop. After that come Albanel at 83 km and Saint-Félicien at 90 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Public occurrence data for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean names northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Lac Abscon the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -18°C. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. The season on Lac Abscon follows the weather closely.
Our records carry no access rule either way. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. If the gate is shut, Lac Cindre at 0.5 km is the nearest alternative. Rules at Lac Abscon are worth checking on the day.
