A closed sky with even light today, with a proper ripple driven from the SSW and the barometer holding steady. Start the search at Lac Ned along reed fringes and open pockets. The numbers single out the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Ned lies in Mauricie, Quebec. Height above sea level is 434 metres. It measures about 10 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The full circuit measures close to 1.6 km on foot. Leblanc is the closest town at 74 km. Beyond it, Chapais at 104 km and Chibougamau at 110 km. Other water nearby: Lac Fulton a shade over 0.3 km, Lac Ciral at about 0.7 km, Lac Marion a shade over 1.1 km, Lac Marot at about 1.3 km and Lac du Savon a shade over 2 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Open biodiversity records for Mauricie list northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Lac Ned gives up more to patience than to distance.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -18°C. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. The water is typically free of ice between early May and mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. The season on Lac Ned rarely departs from it.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac Fulton at 0.3 km is the sensible second choice. Treat access at Lac Ned as something to verify.
