A closed sky with even light today, with a consistent blow out of the SSW and steady pressure. Whatever swims in Lac Marion should be near bays that hold the day's warmth. The night is where the day comes good. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac Marion stands in Mauricie, Quebec. It stands 432 metres above sea level. It covers about 10 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. The bank runs about 2.3 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. The town to know is Leblanc, 73 km out. Chapais lies 104 km off, Chibougamau another 110 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Records held for Mauricie cover northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Anyone new to Lac Marion should walk it once before setting up.
The warm month here averages 16°C; the cold one sits at -18°C. The ice season is long here and the open one short. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. The open-water window runs from around early May to about mid November in an average year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. At Lac Marion the season follows that pattern closely.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac Ned at 1.1 km is the sensible second choice. What applies at Lac Marion may have changed since it was mapped.
