An even grey lid over the water, with steady pressure of wind from the SSW and the barometer holding steady. Give points where shallow meets deep the first hour at Lac Mort. Set the alarm around the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Mort is a Nord-du-Québec water, Quebec side. The surface lies 390 metres up. Surface area is around 48 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The edge runs 4.8 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Nearest place of any size is Chapais, 66 km away. Saguenay sits 263 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Records held for Nord-du-Québec cover Arctic charr, brook trout and lake trout. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Work Lac Mort in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Long-run averages give July about 16°C and January about -19°C. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Lac Mort runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Should this one be busy, Lac Elliot is 2.5 km off. Nothing on Lac Mort should be assumed from this page alone.
