Dull, settled light over the water, with a persistent wind from the SSW and pressure going nowhere. Start the search at Lac des Passereaux along the seam between weed and open water. Make the night the heart of the trip. Make the first hour count and build on it. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Morning
Set in Nord-du-Québec, Quebec, this is Lac des Passereaux. This is spruce and muskeg country. Roughly 67 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The shoreline runs about 5.6 km, so it pays to pick a stretch and stay with it. Chapais at 63 km is the nearest place to stop. After that come Chibougamau at 69 km and Leblanc at 115 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Species logged across Nord-du-Québec include Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout and lake whitefish. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Fish Lac des Passereaux to its features, not to its size.
Between January at about -19°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. On Lac des Passereaux the same rules apply, with local timing.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. For a change of water, Lac de l'Orfraie is 1.8 km distant. Signs at Lac des Passereaux carry more weight than any list.
