An even grey lid over the water, with a decent SSW wind working the banks and the barometer holding steady. The productive water at Lac Moose will be around windblown banks where food collects. The numbers single out the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Set in Lanaudière, Quebec, this is Lac Moose. The ground round it is boreal forest. At 8 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. Compared with other Quebec water on our list, it sits high. Manawan lies 24 km from the water. Further out sit Saint-Michel-des-Saints (46 km) and Saint-Donat-de-Montcalm (80 km). It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Across Lanaudière, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, rock bass and brook trout. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Read Lac Moose before you fish it and the day goes better.
July runs about 17°C on average, January about -16°C. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Moose.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Failing this one, try Lac Aime, 0.9 km away. Check the current arrangement for Lac Moose.
