Steady rain over the water today, with a consistent blow out of the S and no real change in pressure. Whatever swims in Lac Monique should be near inflow corners and shaded margins. Set the alarm around the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

In Quebec, Lac Monique falls inside Nord-du-Québec. The surroundings are spruce and muskeg. Surface area runs to about 9 hectares — small enough to read in one session. The edge runs 1.5 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. It is a small entry by Nord-du-Québec standards. Start from Chibougamau, 30 km down the road. Saguenay is the closest city, 268 km away. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout, lake whitefish and cisco. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. On Lac Monique the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Between January at about -19°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. This far north the hard season runs and runs. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. On Lac Monique the same rules apply, with local timing.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. For a change of water, Lac Guy is 2.4 km distant. Confirm access to Lac Monique locally before you travel.
