Damp, showery conditions today, with hardly a ripple anywhere and the barometer holding steady. Whatever swims in Lac Jacques should be near bays that hold the day's warmth. Everything points to the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Lac Jacques is a Nord-du-Québec water, in Quebec. The bank is 410 metres above sea level. It measures about 38 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Around 4.8 km of margin, front to back. The nearest town is Chibougamau, 25 km away. The big place round here is Saguenay, 272 km distant. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Fish documented in Nord-du-Québec include Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout and lake whitefish. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Treat Lac Jacques as a water to read rather than to cover.
Between January at about -19°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. That is the shape of the year on Lac Jacques.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Lac Jeannine at 1.4 km is the sensible second choice. Nothing on Lac Jacques should be assumed from this page alone.
