Fresh rain topping the water up today, with barely a breath of wind and steady pressure. The water to cover at Lac Claude is inflow corners and shaded margins. One clear peak today: the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Lac Claude falls in Nord-du-Québec, part of Quebec. Height above sea level is 403 metres. Roughly 18 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Roughly 2.9 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Most waters listed here for Nord-du-Québec are larger. Supplies mean a trip to Chibougamau, 27 km off. Chapais lies 48 km off, Mistissini another 84 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Species logged across Nord-du-Québec include Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout and lake whitefish. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. The shape of Lac Claude decides where the fish sit.
Long-term averages put July at about 16°C and January near -19°C. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. The season on Lac Claude rarely departs from it.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. The nearest alternative is Lac Jeannine, 1.7 km out. What applies at Lac Claude may have changed since it was mapped.
