Bands of rain crossing through the day, with calm air over the water and pressure going nowhere. The water to cover at Lac Eponge is the seam between weed and open water. The night is where the day comes good. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Eponge stands in Nord-du-Québec, Quebec. This is boreal forest ground. The water covers some 14 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The full circuit measures close to 1.8 km on foot. Our Nord-du-Québec list holds plenty of bigger water. Chibougamau lies 32 km from the water. For a city, Saguenay is 263 km off. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth figures are not published for this one. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Records held for Nord-du-Québec cover Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout, lake whitefish and cisco. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Fish Lac Eponge to its features, not to its size.
The year swings from about -19°C in January to roughly 16°C in July. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Expect Lac Eponge to follow that timing.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. If the gate is shut, Lac Berceau at 0.9 km is the nearest alternative. Treat Lac Eponge as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
