A grey, even sky over the water, with a busy WNW wind on the open water with the glass holding level. Activity on Lac Merigon should centre on the shallows early and the drop later. The best of it runs the day. Small adjustments will matter more than big moves. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Merigon falls in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, part of Quebec. It stands 462 metres above sea level. Nearest town is Leblanc, 74 km off. Normandin follows at 104 km, then Weymontachie at 110 km. Close neighbours run: Lac Courlac sits 0.7 km out, Lac Neure roughly 1.3 km, Lac Citou sits 1.4 km out, Lac Collan roughly 1.4 km and Lac Gely sits 1.8 km out. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Fish documented in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Read Lac Merigon for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Temperature averages peak at 16°C in July and bottom out at -18°C in January. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. On Lac Merigon that shapes the whole year.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. If the gate is shut, Lac Courlac at 0.7 km is the nearest alternative. For Lac Merigon, the notice at the access point is the final word.
