A closed sky with even light today, with a firm SSW blow with the barometer flat. The productive water at Lac de l'Etoile will be around structure within a cast of the bank. The day peaks in the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Lac de l'Etoile sits within Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean in Quebec. The ground round it is northern bush. At about 20 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. There is roughly 2.2 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Leblanc lies 74 km from the water. Saguenay sits 216 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, recorded fish include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Lac de l'Etoile repays a walk before the first cast.
Averages move between -18°C in January and 16°C in July. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near early May. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. That is the shape of the year on Lac de l'Etoile.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Lac Cazavet sits 1 km off and takes the overflow. Nothing here settles the position at Lac de l'Etoile for certain.
