Cloud in patches with bright spells between, with a whisper of wind from the SSW with the glass holding level. Activity on Lac Menard should centre on windblown banks where food collects. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient.

You will find Lac Menard in Outaouais, Quebec. The ground around here is rolling bush. It measures about 18 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Shoreline comes to about 2.7 km, small enough to learn in a day. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Quebec listings. Some 20 km away sits Saint-Raphaël, the nearest settlement. Maniwaki is 31 km and Saint-Boniface 41 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Survey and observation records for Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Fish Lac Menard where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Long-run averages give July about 18°C and January about -14°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Open water usually runs from late April until about late November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Anyone fishing Lac Menard regularly works to that calendar.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac Noir sits 1.1 km off and takes the overflow. What applies at Lac Menard may have changed since it was mapped.
