Solid cloud cover today, with a soft SSW wind and the barometer holding steady. Whatever swims in Lac Filion should be near inflow corners and shaded margins. The forecast is against you; the night is the least bad option. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Filion falls in Outaouais, part of Quebec. Elevation runs to 224 metres. With some 19 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. There is roughly 3.2 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Quebec listings. Start from Saint-Raphaël, 18 km down the road. Further out sit Maniwaki (30 km) and Saint-Boniface (40 km). No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Species logged across Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Read Lac Filion before you fish it and the day goes better.
On the long-term average, July reads 19°C and January reads -14°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. The open-water window runs from around late April to about late November in an average year. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Plan any trip to Lac Filion around it.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Lac de la Loutre, 1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Rules at Lac Filion are worth checking on the day.
