Wet weather working through today, with light air out of the S and no real change in pressure. Whatever swims in Lac Major should be near sheltered bays and points. If you pick one session, make it the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac Major falls in Laurentides, part of Quebec. The surface lies 283 metres up. At some 3.55 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. The perimeter runs near 22 km, so plan the walk before you start. It ranks high for size among our Laurentides listings. Ferme-Neuve lies 16 km from the water. It is 152 km to Gatineau, the nearest city. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Across Laurentides, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and brook trout. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. The shape of Lac Major rewards a slow walk along one bank.
July runs about 18°C on average, January about -15°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late April. Climate figures give an open season running late April to late November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Plan around that when you fish Lac Major.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Failing this one, try Lac de la Chaloupe, 3.3 km away. Check the position at Lac Major before loading the car.
