Wet weather working through today, with mild air moving in from the S and the barometer holding steady. Activity on Lac a Blais should centre on reed fringes and open pockets. Everything points to the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

You will find Lac a Blais in Laurentides, Quebec. It lies 278 metres above sea level. For supplies, Ferme-Neuve is 21 km out. Mont-Laurier follows at 35 km, then Saint-Boniface at 51 km. Neighbouring water: Lac Keffer within 1.9 km, Lac Rouge at about 3.4 km, Lac Huot within 4.7 km, Lac Major at about 6.2 km and Lac Robitaille within 6.3 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Across Laurentides, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, brook trout and rock bass. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. On Lac a Blais the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Seasonal averages run from -15°C in January up to 18°C in July. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about late November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Time your trip to Lac a Blais by conditions rather than dates.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. For a change of water, Lac Keffer is 1.9 km distant. None of that is settled for Lac a Blais in what we hold.
