A closed sky with even light today, with hardly a ripple anywhere with a settled glass. On Lac Laneret, work bays that hold the day's warmth first. A grinding day likely, with the night worth the effort if any is. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Set in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Lac Laneret is a Quebec water. The bank is 322 metres above sea level. About 3 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. It is a small entry by Abitibi-Témiscamingue standards. Start from Notre-Dame-du-Lac, 95 km down the road. Greater Sudbury sits 243 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Records held for Abitibi-Témiscamingue cover northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Lac Laneret gives up more to patience than to distance.
The warmest month averages 17°C, the coldest about -15°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Expect Lac Laneret to follow that timing.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac Palot, 0.9 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Rules at Lac Laneret are worth checking on the day.
