Lac Giffon, Quebec: Fishing Spots and Seasons

• Overview

• Where to Fish on Lac Giffon

  There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Reported across Abitibi-Témiscamingue: northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Lac Giffon gives up more to patience than to distance.

  July runs about 17°C on average, January about -15°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. Ice clears near late April and comes back about late November in a typical year. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze.
