No direct sun expected today, with a steady SSW wind and pressure sitting still. Most of the action on Lac Joyelle should come off shallow cover and weed edges. Save your energy for the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

This water sits in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. It sits at 445 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 19 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The edge runs 3.7 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Start from Normandin, 42 km down the road. Further out sit Albanel (49 km) and Saint-Félicien (52 km). It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. County-wide records name northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Anyone new to Lac Joyelle should walk it once before setting up.
Between January at about -18°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Joyelle.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Lac Allay, 1.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Signs at Lac Joyelle carry more weight than any list.
