Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with light air out of the SSW and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Lac Jota should come off points where shallow meets deep. Numbers are low everywhere; the middle of the day is the pick of them. Take the small wins and call it early if it dies.

Lac Jota falls in Outaouais, part of Quebec. It lies 256 metres above sea level. Small at around 3 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Outaouais. Supplies mean a trip to Saint-Boniface, 36 km off. The nearest city of size is Gatineau, 151 km away. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Fish Lac Jota where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
The year swings from about -15°C in January to roughly 18°C in July. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. That is the shape of the year on Lac Jota.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. For a change of water, Lac Corby is 0.9 km distant. Confirm before you fish Lac Jota.
