A closed sky with even light today, with mild air moving in from the SSW and the barometer holding steady. Expect most activity at Lac Jean around structure within a cast of the bank. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Lac Jean stands in Outaouais, Quebec. Height above sea level is 248 metres. At 1.71 sq km this is proper open water rather than a pond. There is roughly 9.3 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. Size puts it in the front rank of our Outaouais list. Saint-Raphaël sits 28 km from here and is the nearest stop. Beyond it, Maniwaki at 29 km and Saint-Boniface at 32 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Open biodiversity records for Outaouais list pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Anyone new to Lac Jean should walk it once before setting up.
Long-run averages give July about 18°C and January about -14°C. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. Climate figures give an open season running late April to late November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Jean.
The access position is unclear from public sources. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Access points are not mapped for this water, which suits people who like quiet. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Lac Flynn, 2.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Ask locally about Lac Jean if anything is unclear.
