Sunshine start to finish today, with a soft SSW wind with a settled glass. On Lac Fred, work points where shallow meets deep first. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

You will find Lac Fred in Outaouais, Quebec. The bank is 242 metres above sea level. It covers about 5 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. Supplies mean a trip to Maniwaki, 24 km off. Gatineau is the closest city, 109 km away. Neighbouring water: Lac Le Vital (0.9 km), Lac Vigo out at 2.1 km, Lac Baker (2.4 km), Lac Flo out at 2.5 km and Lac Arthur (2.7 km). One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Across Outaouais, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Lac Fred gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
In an average year July sits at 18°C and January at -14°C. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Ice clears near late April and comes back about late November in a typical year. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Plan around that when you fish Lac Fred.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac Le Vital sits 0.9 km off and takes the overflow. For Lac Fred, the notice at the access point is the final word.
