Soft grey light all day today, with dead-still conditions and pressure sitting still. Most of the action on Lac Jay should come off the seam between weed and open water. The numbers single out the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Set in Laurentides, Lac Jay is a Quebec water. Country round the bank runs to spruce and muskeg. It measures about 11 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The edge runs 1.7 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Start from Ferme-Neuve, 84 km down the road. Manawan is 92 km and Mont-Laurier 100 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and brook trout. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Lac Jay fishes better once you know its edges.
Between January at about -17°C and July at about 17°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Anyone fishing Lac Jay regularly works to that calendar.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. A jetty or pier is mapped about 1.4 km from here. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Lac Vallerand sits 1.8 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Lac Jay in what we hold.
