Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with dead-still conditions and steady pressure. Fish at Lac King should hold close to any hard bottom among the soft. If you pick one session, make it the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Look for Lac King in Laurentides, Quebec. It lies 396 metres above sea level. Around 16 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The bank runs about 2.1 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. The nearest town is Ferme-Neuve, 82 km away. The big place round here is Gatineau, 218 km distant. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Laurentides records list pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, brook trout and rock bass among the fish reported. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Fish Lac King to its features, not to its size.
Typical July readings run about 17°C; by January the average is down near -17°C. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Lac King fishes to that pattern most years.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. For a change of water, Lac Chicot is 0.5 km distant. What applies at Lac King may have changed since it was mapped.
