Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with stillness over the whole water and pressure going nowhere. The fish at Lac Hurter are likely to sit near shallow cover and weed edges. Make the night the heart of the trip. Make the first hour count and build on it. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Night
You will find Lac Hurter in Laurentides, Quebec. The water sits 340 metres up. This is a pocket water of some 6 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. The nearest town is Ferme-Neuve, 68 km away. Manawan follows at 80 km, then Mont-Laurier at 85 km. If this one is busy: Lac Cogut at 0.5 km, Lac Marcotte (1.9 km), Lac Gilles at 1.9 km, Lac Kanaka (3 km) and Lac Sierra at 3.1 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Open biodiversity records for Laurentides list pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, brook trout and rock bass. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Lac Hurter the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Climate records put July near 17°C and January near -16°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Ice clears near late April and comes back about mid November in a typical year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. The season on Lac Hurter follows the weather closely.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Should this one be busy, Lac Cogut is 0.5 km off. Confirm before you fish Lac Hurter.
