Flat light and a covered sky today, with the surface near flat with the glass holding level. Fish at Lac Hurtault should hold close to shallow cover and weed edges. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Hurtault lies in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, in Quebec. Around the bank it is lake country bush. It measures about 15 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Shoreline comes to about 2.0 km, small enough to learn in a day. For a base, Val-d'Or sits 102 km out. Malartic lies 113 km off, Deep River another 122 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Open biodiversity records for Abitibi-Témiscamingue list northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Work Lac Hurtault in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Long-term averages put July at about 17°C and January near -16°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly late November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. The season on Lac Hurtault rarely departs from it.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Lac Faulx at 0.7 km is the sensible second choice. Treat access at Lac Hurtault as something to verify.
