A grey, foggy start today, with a soft S wind and pressure sitting still. Fish at Lac Houle should hold close to the seam between weed and open water. The numbers single out the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac Houle is one of the Mauricie waters in Quebec. Country round the bank runs to taiga. With some 45 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Shoreline comes to about 3.1 km, small enough to learn in a day. It is among the larger waters listed here for Mauricie. Weymontachie sits 47 km from here and is the nearest stop. Leblanc lies 79 km off, Saint-Félicien another 82 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Public occurrence data for Mauricie names northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Lac Houle responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Temperature averages peak at 16°C in July and bottom out at -18°C in January. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Plan any trip to Lac Houle around it.
The access position is unclear from public sources. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Lac Hornet at 1.4 km is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Lac Houle in what we hold.
