Soft grey light all day today, with mild air moving in from the S with a settled glass. The water to cover at Lac Hornet is any hard bottom among the soft. The day peaks in the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Mauricie, Quebec, is where Lac Hornet sits. This is northern bush ground. This is a pocket water of some 8 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Head to Weymontachie, 45 km away, for anything you forgot. It is 169 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. Also on the doorstep: Lac Suzie after 0.7 km, Lac Hugo about 1.1 km, Lac Houle after 1.4 km, Lac Camel about 1.6 km and Lac Petit after 2.5 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Public occurrence data for Mauricie names northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Lac Hornet gives up more to patience than to distance.
The range across the year is -17°C to 16°C. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Anyone fishing Lac Hornet regularly works to that calendar.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Lac Suzie, 0.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm before you fish Lac Hornet.
