Flat light and a covered sky today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SW and pressure going nowhere. Start the search at Lac Hal along points where shallow meets deep. If you must go, go in the middle of the day. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Hal is one of the Côte-Nord listings for Quebec. The coast is 14 km away. Roughly 38 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Shoreline comes to about 3.5 km, small enough to learn in a day. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Quebec listings. For supplies, Baie-Comeau is 53 km out. Hauterive lies 62 km off, Matane another 70 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Côte-Nord records list logperch among the fish reported. The county list is broader than any single water. The near bank of Lac Hal is often the one people ignore.
Average temperature peaks around 16°C in July and bottoms out near -14°C in January. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. The open-water window runs from around early May to about mid November in an average year. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. The season on Lac Hal rarely departs from it.
The access position is unclear from public sources. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. The nearest alternative is Lac Bonet, 0.9 km out. The position on Lac Hal is worth confirming on the day.
